Swimming Legend Karin Prinsloo Retires

Published by:

Last year when I had the honour of an Up Close interview with Karin Prinsloo, I wrote this about her, and today as I announce her retirement, I feel and mean each and every word that I wrote about her:

Written by Cresi on 2 May 2015:

Karin Prinsloo, SA’s Top Female swimmer, one of Africa’s and South Africa’s finest daughters, dedicated Olympian and our beloved Queen of the Swimming Pool talks to Heslop Sports in an exclusive interview.

She is also the deserving recipient of the African Female Swimmer of the Year award 2013. This ordinary girl from Marble Hall, with her extra-ordinary faith, vision, dedication and talent, is not just a triumphant athlete, but one who sets a brilliant example of purposeful living, showing that “this life is a dress rehearsal for eternity” (Leonard Ravenhill). This is the type of sportsmanship that inspires a generation, our Nation, our African Continent and also the world.

This champion represents SA well on the world’s top swimming arena’s and podiums, she is a multiple South African and African record holder and medalist, coach, mentor, and unashamedly an ambassador for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in and out of the water. Karin strives to motivate young athletes wherever she travels to or finds herself.

Karin retires

This morning Karin Prinsloo announced her retirement out of competitive swimming with these powerful and true worlds:

Karin Writes:

“SO many mixed feelings that it’s hard to comprehend For 21 years swimming was part of my life but last night I completed the circle by ending it off with the event I qualified in for the 2012 Olympics. I never thought the sport I loved so dearly would also be the very thing that brought me so much tears.

But today I walk away with a grateful heart. Grateful to the Lord my Maker who has blessed me in abundance with amazing achievements and people, people who were by my side, come good or bad. The past 2 years were the hardest times I’ve ever had to face but by the grace of God He carried me through it all. I thank each and everyone, especially my family & friends reading this for all the love and support over the years.

Wish I was able to make SA more proud and personally – spread the Gospel through my swimming career. But I know the Lord has other plans in-store for my life and as hard as it is to walk away, I am leaving with a smile on my face. Knowing I gave it my all and I have met the most wonderful people through my swimming career. I look forward to swim/compete on the New Earth again, where all the injuries, hardship, sin will be a small, far distance memory away and where we all will triumph in victory

Now to the only God our Savior be GLORY, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore!

Amen”

Heslop Sports wish you all the best blessings for your journey ahead and look forward to what you will be ploughing back into the development of our Youth in South Africa.

Soli Deo Gloria!

INTERVIEW:

Q: You are passionate and doing so well in your Swimming, tell me a little bit about how you started in swimming and your journey in the swimming arena up to now?

Jetty MileAt the age of 5yrs I fractured my upper arm. My mother took me to the pool for physio. Then her friend June Owen-Smith (well- known coach of Namibia) took me under her supervision and made me swim my first gala with 6 yrs. I enjoyed the challenge and with June it was a great journey. She prepared me from an early age to improve my times and taking part in  SA Age Group Level 1,2 and 3  galas in South Africa. Unfortunately June retired from swimming when I was 12, and then my mom became my coach. She helped me with all her passion for swimming to work myself up on the Namibian swim ladder, breaking several Namibian records such as 400m Free, 800m Free and 1500m Free. With hard work and determination I also took part in international meets such as Zone 4 Youth Games Mozambique, Zone 6 Youth Games Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (winning 2 individual bronze medals) and Junior World Swimming Championship Singapore 2015. In South Africa I enjoyed competing at Pretoria NTS swimming gala, Age Group Level 3 and SA National Aquatic Championships Durban 2015 &2016. With victories in all the long distance events, my mother introduced to me open water swimming (sea swim). Being as well a surfer I made sure nobody knows the ocean better than me and I was the overall Jetty Mile winner for the last three years (triple -crown). This year I started to swim the Midmar Mile 5km event and also qualified and took part in SA National Aquatic OWS in Grabouw. I had very good results and came home with silver medal in my age group and 7th overall. I love the open water and love the distance, so I will take part in more OWS.

Q: You have just blasted it at the South African Nationals recently, wow, congratulations. How did you experience the meeting and the vibe at the meeting? Lessons learned.

For me it was the second time competing at SA Nationals. I was very well prepared and trained hard to achieve my personal goals. The youth medals and the senior bronze medal was for me a bonus, but my aim is always that I swim against my own time. Any new PB is for me an achievement. The vibe of the gala was great, especially watching the finals – the make or break for Rio 2016. I made a lot of friends and it was also great to see my friend Danie Marais, who I’ve met at the OWS events.

Fly

Q: What is the highest accolade that you have achieved in swimming and what is your greatest personal accomplishment

Taking part at the Junior World Swimming Championship Singapore 2015. Meeting swimmers from all over the world, different cultures and sharing the water was a big highlight. My biggest achievement was the OTB Jetty Mile and taking the triple- crown. This event is also very unpredictable, sometimes we have to swim in big swells or ice cold water.  My latest personal achievement was breaking 6 Namibian records at SA Nationals in Durban in one gala.

Q: Why do you value and respect your coach so much?

My mother is my coach. I respect her, because she helped me to achieve my targets. I also have to respect her, because she always makes it very clear, that she rather would be playing tennis, instead of coaching me at the pool. Don’t have much of a choice?!?

Q: How do you manage to fit in both sports and academics / work into your schedule?

Time Management, discipline and routine are my daily assets.

Q: Besides your swimming what do you have a passion for?

Surfing big waves is my hobby.

Life after swimming

Q: Tell me one thing about yourself that the world does not knowJ?

I am training all on my own. I don’t have any swimming mates who can keep up with my level. We experience a lot of problems with our local swimming pool. The water is not always heated, water quality very poor and our practice ground cannot always be taken for granted. Sometimes we have to make use of the ocean for training.

Q: Would you like to share a little bit more about your faith journey and how it has affected your life / sports?

Situations, which I cannot manage or handle myself, I will leave in God’s hands. It feels good to know I am not alone.

Q: Favorite Bible verse?

I will walk by faith, even I cannot see – 2 Corinthians S: 7

Q: What do you do to relax?

Surfing, listening to music and watching you-tube

surfing

Q: What’s your WHY?  Why do you do what you do?

The water is my playground. I would like to promote a clean sport and also create awareness how to look after our coastal environment. I want to set a good example to the youth that swimming goes together with discipline, a very hard sport to achieve glories, but with determination anything is possible. Swimming should also be more promoted in schools and teach our children water safety. Unfortunately we have a lot deaths with drowning here in Namibia. Awareness can save a lot of lives.

Q: What is your personal favorite motivational quote?

My mother always says: “if you don’t try, you don’t know” and the last one before the race “Fast waters”

Q: What is your biggest challenge, and what do you do to manage this challenge?

My biggest challenge is to start competing in 10km OWS races. To achieve my goal, I will train very hard, long mileage and keep disciplined.

Q: Anything else you would like to share?

I would like to say a big thank you to all people in Namibia, who have supported and assisted me during my journey of swimming. I know that I have a great team behind me and I am always so happy if I come home to share my victories. Proud to be Namibian.

Report Back – Zane Waddell – Olympic Trials 2016

Published by:

Zane waddel report back

Q: You made such a wonderful statement recently, you said “2020 is ours baby” ☺ What causes this fire and determination burning within you?

After competing at Nationals and seeing how quick Christopher Reid and Chad swam, inspired me to work hard for the next four years to absolutely smash 2020 Olympics.

zane waddell report back

Q: You did brilliantly at SA Nationals / Olympic trials the with many podium positions, congrats! It was still one of the toughest and most important sporting events for a swimmer to attend. Would you like to share what is on your heart and mind and how you experienced it?

It is definitely one of the most stressful meets any athlete can compete in on a national level. I think the best way I can say this is that I had to force myself to take it one step at a time.

Q: What was your biggest challenge leading up to these champs (if any)? and how did you manage that challenge?

My biggest challenge was to keep training hard in the last few weeks of tough training before taper time, and the only way I got through that was through the support of my coach, Simon Gray and my parents.

Q: What was your state of mind leading up to it?

I was unusually calm going into nationals but I got nervous when it got to race time, I’ll probably find a way to deal with that as I grow more mature.

Q: Why do you have such deep seated respect for your coach/es and support system along your journey?

Swimming at this level is a team sport, despite what people say. Your team consists of your coach, physio, parents and friends. You’ve got to treat this team the same way you would treat your rugby/hockey team. If you are willing to give your all for them, they’ll give their all for you.

Q: Lessons learned/ notes to self so far on your swimming journey in general?

Stay strong and take it one day at a time, with the bigger picture in the foreground.

Q: I have a beautiful image of you on your knees next to your block at Olympic trials. Your comments on this?

I wasn’t intending on that moment getting caught but I think is a beautiful picture and I love what it represents. You find power when you are standing, but courage on your knees.

Q: You are off to the US soon, how is your excitement levels?

☺ I am looking forward to start training in the US with the University Of Alabama. My excitement is through the roof!!

Q: Anything else you would like to share?

God Bless and Roll Tide!

Catching up with our Olympians: Shireen Sapiro

Today I am celebrating Shireen Sapiron, one of SA’s and Africa’s great swimming legends, a 2 x Paralympian, and just freshly qualified in her 3rd for Rio Paralympics in September 2016. She is a great inspiration not only in the sports arena, but in life, a true overcomer after an accident that almost destroyed her. She rose all the way to the top despite these challenges and is a humble and deeply grateful athlete with great faith in God and a passionate love for life.

She says – “I just want to inspire others to be the best version of themselves. I want people to know that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. I want everyone to know that they are worthy”. Her challenge to our youth is this – “I want to inspire and motivate the youth to be around people who are positive and inspire them to become happy, healthy and productive people in society. I want them you surround themselves with positive people and I know they can achieve that by being involved in sport”.

INTERVIEW:

Q: Firstly congrats on qualifying for Rio! You are one of SA’s top female athletes, an Olympic gold medalist, admired by many, passionate and doing so well in your Swimming tell me a little bit about how you started in swimming and your journey in the swimming arena up to now?

I started swimming when I was 9 years old. At the time I had my hopes and dreams set on becoming an Olympic gymnast. All of my time and energy was devoted to gymnastics. My best friend at the time was very much into swimming and asked me to join her at swimming maybe once or twice a week so that we get more time to play together after school. I agreed and I started swimming. At our first school gala I beat everyone in all the events. I then realized that swimming was something I wanted to take more seriously. As time passed gymnastics started to fade away as swimming became my main focus. I knew that I wanted to become an Olympic swimmer.

In 2004 at age 13, I was involved in a serious boating accident on the Vaal Dam, which left me fighting for my life. Doctors told my parents that I would not see the light of another day, and if I did, I would never be able to walk again. By the grace of God I survived and spent a total of 5 months flat on my back in the hospital. The propeller of the boat had ripped my body in two leaving me with severe damage to the left side of my body. I spent 2 years in rehabilitation teaching myself to walk and swim again because now only one half of my body was functioning properly.

My first gala after my accident was a complete disaster. People I use to beat were now beating me. I was devastated but I knew that giving up on my dream was not an option. My physio at the rehabilitation center suggested that I try competing as a disabled athlete. I was completely against it because I did not see myself as a disable person. After many tears my mom finally convinced me to swim a race in the disable category. I swam the 50m freestyle and smashed the SA record. I think that was the moment where my dreams changed from becoming an Olympian to a Paralympian. In 2008 I competed at my first Paralympic Games where I won a gold medal and broke the World record, I won a bronze medal at the London 2012 Paralympics and have recently qualified for my third games in Rio.

Q: Who are you?

I am a very relaxed “go with the flow” type of girl. I like to think that I am kind and enjoying giving a helping hand wherever I can. I also enjoy seeing others happy and successful. I am honest and reliable. I also think that I am a good friend.

In the future I would like to become more patient. I get really irritated when things don’t go my way.

Q: Why do you have such deep seated respect for your coach?

I have respect for my amazing coaches because of how hard working they are. They want their swimmers to be successful. I respect them because swimming is their passion and I know that they have my best interests at heart. I fully trust my coaches to get me where I need to be.

Q: Explain your career, and how do you balance it with being a professional swimmer?

I am currently a full time student and a professional athlete. I have taken a break from studies this year to focus on the games and will continue next year. Balancing your training and studies is all about time management and discipline.

Q: Would you like to share a little bit more about your faith journey and how it has affected your life / sports?

I grew up in a Jewish home and I believe that God presents everyone in the world with opportunities. We just need to be brave enough to take them. God has given me the strength to become the person and athlete I am today.

IMG_1230

Q: What do you do to relax?

I enjoy going to the beach. I was born to be in the water so swimming in the ocean definitely relaxes me. I actually enjoy doing all types of outdoors actives like riding bikes and hiking. I also love going to the movies and spending time with my family and friends.

Q: What is your personal favourite motivational quote?

I have so many but one that stands out for me the most is,

“Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Get confident being uncertain. Don’t give up just because something is hard. Pushing through challenges is what makes you grow”.

Q: You have an amazing testimony of your accident, do you want to share a little?

My accident was only a true blessing in my life. I have met the most wonderful people and experienced things that take my breath away. My accident has humbled me and played a huge roll in shaping me into the person I am today. Even though I have parts of my body that don’t function like normal persons would, I am happy. I have enormous scars but I am extremely proud of them. If I could turn back the hands of time, I wouldn’t change a single thing.

Q: What is your definition of greatness?

My definition of greatness is nothing but pure happiness. I believe that if you are happy with what you are doing in life then you have achieved greatness. Whether it is becoming a mother, landing your dream job or even having completed a race. Everyone can achieve greatness in some or other way.

Q: What’s your WHY ?

I do what I do because it makes me happy. Swimming is my passion and it gives me purpose. I enjoy pushing my body to become the best I possibly can be. I do what I do because I get to be around wonderful, positive and uplifting people. I do what I do because I know it is a healthy environment to be in.

Q: One thing about Shireen that the world does not know 🙂

I can actually sing really well. As a young girl I always wanted to become a theatrical performer. I wanted to sing and dance like the people in the musical, Cats.

Catching up with our Olympians: Matthew Mark Meyer

Published by:

This young 18 year old Olympian and matric student from Clifton College is a man of focus, much wisdom for his youth and has so many interesting facets. He qualified for the Rio Olympics for the 1500m freestyle, amidst the nausea, pain and burn that confirmed his sure victory. He speaks with deep gratefulness for the brilliant guidance and support of his Coach Alisdair Hatfield, his dear ones in his life and says “One day, if I could say I turned out to be half the man Alisdair is then I would be proud of who I have become”. Matthew is such a mature and inspirational youth that will do SA proud, come this Rio Olympics.

When asked about himself he said “Well to be honest I’m some sort of a strange blend of a person really. I’m somewhere between an introvert and an extrovert but if you get to know me I think the extrovert may come out. I love to stay active, I can’t sit still at all and wherever I go there has to be something physical that I can do. Often that isn’t too much of a problem as I have to swim no matter where I go but if by some strange reason I don’t, then I will find something to do. Loyalty, it’s a quality I have prided myself on for many years and I feel that it is always the starting block when journeying to be the person you truly want to be”.

INTERVIEW:

Q: You have just realized a lifelong dream to qualify for the Rio Olympics. Wow and well done. What is on your heart and mind right now concerning this qualification?

Thank-you so much! For the first few days it was really just a matter of trying to soak it all in. It was hard to believe that I had finally accomplished a lifelong dream. It has been a goal of mine for some years now. After I started to realize what I had done I, at the same time, knew I had to get back into the pool and train harder than ever as there are bigger goals still to come.

Q: Respecting and being grateful for the journey that you, your parents and coaches have been on till now. Also for the benefit and encouragement of young and up-coming little dreamers that see you as a hero – how was your swimming performances at about age 13/14? What was your regime like at that age?

It’s been a long journey for us all however; I only really believe that we’ve reached a halfway point. I have been in the sport for 10 years straight with no breaks in between and am hoping to reach my 10 thousand hours in the pool soon as I feel this is the point where I’ll be at my peak. At the age of 13/14 I was really just trying to reach one goal, breaking my first age group record. I was unsuccessful until the age of 15 where a broke records on 5 different occasions throughout the year. The main aim of those years from my coach’s perspective was just getting the mileage and hard training in to set me up for the future.

Q: Why do you have such deep seated respect for your coach?

Alisdair is my life mentor, be it swimming, academics or life in general. He has helped me through a lot of ups and downs in my life and never lost faith in me throughout the journey so far. Alisdair is integral, honest and an inspiration to me.

Q: Would you like to share a little bit more about your faith journey and how it has affected your life / sports?

My faith ensures a safe, healthy and happy day to day life for my family and those who are dear to me. I am eternally grateful for all I have and all I am.

Q: Beside swimming, what else do you have a passion for?

My family and girlfriend. For me there is nothing better than a weekend consisting of a family lunch, a day well spent with my girlfriend and possibly a mornings worth of fishing with my dad. This refreshes my mind every week and reminds me how lucky I am outside of the pool. It’s amazing to know I have the undying support of these people and really makes me strive to achieve to the best of my ability.

Q: What is your personal favourite motivational quote?

Do what you love and love what you do!!

Q: What was your biggest challenge leading up to Olympic Qualifiers, and how did you manage that challenge?

It was a matter of controlling my nerves. I tend to get quite nervous for some of my bigger races and it doesn’t help me in the pool unless I control it.

Q: In your opinion, how do you define greatness in life?

Doing what you love and being successful at it. The two go hand in hand, if you love what you do then you will be good at it. Stay passionate, positive and hardworking but most of all be the person you have always dreamed of being.

IMG_0333

Q: What’s your WHY ?

I do what I do because I love it. My path in swimming and academics is what it is because of hard work and dedication. My message to the youth is that nothing in life comes easy and unless you are willing to sacrifice and commit, then your dreams will forever remain a dream.

Q: One thing about Matthew that the world does not know

I love to listen to music from the Tarzan Animation before I race.

Q: Favourite meal?

Well this is a difficult one. My mom is an amazing cook and I really can’t pinpoint my favored dish what I do know is that they all belong to her. My favorites would be the Monday night breyani, lamb roast on weekends, prawn pasta on a special occasion as well as my dad’s specialty ribs. People wonder how I stay slim and to be honest I don’t know either…

The funding pool for the “Partners for Gold” Medal Incentive Program will be made available to:

  • Winning medalists (Gold, Silver and Bronze) from both the Olympic and Paralympic Teams participating at Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
  • Winning medalists and Coaches will receive a share (according to a formula mutually agreed between SASCOC and Telkom, as to the level of distributions) from the final total funding pool.

President of SASCOC, Gideon Sam, said: “As we see positive selections come on stream leading into Rio 2016 Olympic Games and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, it’s positive to also see brands like Telkom commit to the Olympic Team and Paralympic Teams for Rio.”

“We expect to be taking up to 230 athletes and officials to Rio and to send the Team requires such positive support of brands like Telkom”, noted Mr Sam.

Mr Sam added: “On the eve of our departure to the Rio Olympics, SASCOC could not have asked for better news. With this sponsorship, Telkom has shown confidence in TeamSA and will be embarking on a journey that will culminate at the Rio Olympics later this year.”

“Telkom is honoured to be able to partner with our national Olympics team as they test themselves in the world’s most demanding sporting competition. Their dedication to the Olympic motto of faster, higher, stronger, resonates with all of us as we strive to always be better than we were,” said Sipho Maseko, Telkom Group Chief Executive Officer.

“We are pleased that a South African company, with a history of service excellence and innovation that operates across Africa, has decided to reinvest in our sports men and women thereby ensuring that they perform at the highest level. This positive support will strengthen Telkom’s relationship with not only the athletes but also with SASCOC so that we together can invest in our future to produce world-class athletes”, said SASCOC Chief Executive, Tubby Reddy

Mr Reddy added: “SASCOC is delighted that Telkom are on board for Rio and welcome an organization with such a strong corporate foundation and enthusiastic commitment to our country and the Team. We are confident that this current partnership will grow and lead to a long-term relationship that will bring benefits to all parties”, he said.

“We would like to thank Telkom for their very timely sponsorship and we are confident that this will open the door for corporate South African to partner with us to develop South African sport”, he said

Reddy noted that “Telkom has had a proud history of being a Partner of various Olympic and Paralympic Teams over a long period of time in South Africa dating back to 1996 so it’s great to have a familiar friend of the Olympic and Paralympic family in our team of supporters again in such a positive way”.

Catching up with footballer – Frank Heslop

Published by:

Frank Heslop, aged 19 is a young and brilliant footballer, ex-swimming champs medalist and dedicated academic and blogger, who is currently doing his B.Com Marketing degree – first year.

Frank has had an extremely challenging start to his football year this 2016 up to now. What I love about him is his positive attitude, his positive speech, and his deep faith and belief that he will be the great footballer that he has dreamed about since a little boy, despite what life throws at him!

In a previous interview he said “I have been playing soccer since I was about 7 years old and I have never looked back since. It started off small but as I grew older and got to know the game more, my desire to become a professional player grew. At the age of 14 I started at a soccer academy where I grew a lot as a player and in character”.

He says – “My aspirations are high and my dream is to be one of the best in the world, playing in the best leagues and representing my country in top competitions”.

When asked about his faith – he said “I am a born again Christian and believe GOD has great plans for my life. It might not be exactly how I plan it, but I know that it is big because I serve a Big GOD”.

Last week, on 21 May 2016, Frank Heslop and his team mates competed at the ultimate university soccer tournament of the year – the Campus Champions League. The battle for the cup was between TUKS, UJ, and WITS. This exciting event took place at Urban 5occer. Congratulation to all the winning team members, well done and brilliantly played and your victory on the soccer field is much deserved.

Frank Tournament11

Urban 5occer is Pretoria’s first 5-a-side football facility. They aim to provide a much needed cutting edge 5-a-side facility and offer “one of the world’s fastest growing sports” to the residents of Pretoria. Their 4 pitches adhere to all specifications laid out by FIFA for 5-a-side football, be it safety, dimensions, drainage, surface or lighting.

Frank Tournament15

All 4 pitches are flood-lit with football specific rebound walls which maximize the playing experience of the high paced game. All their pitches use an “all-weather” FIFA accredited synthetic turf and infill system and are the first 5-a-side pitches in South Africa to offer a two tone colouration much like the 11-a-side football pitches seen at most stadiums worldwide.

The clubhouse has recently undergone a complete revamp, which includes the installation of a contemporary sports bar, lounge area, casual dining facility and pool table. The change rooms and ablution facilities have been completely upgraded with the addition of a modernized locker system and shower facilities.

Catching up with our Olympians: Douglas Erasmus

Published by:

Connecting with Doug Erasmus gave me so much hope again in the fact that dreams really do come true. He started swimming at the age of 15, much later than many swimmers these days, but immediately excelled and went from strength to strength in his swimming career. I admire his inborn resilience and firm and resolute belief that hard work has to pay off – and for him it did beautifully in in Olympic qualification.

Doug is not just brilliant in swimming but an outstanding academic also, who is currently busy with his post graduate B.Com Honours Degree. He says this – “Success is a long journey, and I am someone who will do what it takes to achieve something. I am dedicated and am always willing to give my best in any situation. I would like others to see me as a dedicated hard working athlete, which will show them that hard work and sacrifices will always pay off”.

INTERVIEW:

Q: You have just realized a lifelong dream to qualify for the Rio Olympics. Wow and well done. What is on your heart and mind right now concerning this qualification?

It has always been something I have been working for, but also something that was up in the clouds, which quickly became a reality. Knowing that all the hard work and sacrifices has paid off puts me on cloud nine. Over the moon with the Qualifying time.

Q: Respecting and being grateful for the journey that you, your parents and coaches have been on till now. Also for the benefit and encouragement of young and up-coming little dreamers that see you as a hero – how was your swimming performances at round about 13 years old? What was your regime like at that age?

I only started swimming competitively at the age of 15. I always looked up to the faster swimmers, not only internationally, but also with in my club. This motivated me and encouraged me to push harder. I qualified for level 3 at my very first Gala, which is something very unlikely.

Doug03Doug04

Q: Beside swimming, what else do you have a passion for?

I see swimming as a full time Job. I am intrigued as to how the rest of the world is swimming, and constantly reading and learning more about the sport and myself to improve more. Other than that I do enjoy other sports, such as Rugby, tennis etc and socializing with friends.

Q: What is your personal favourite motivational quote?

“We can have more than what we’ve got, because we can become more than what we are” – Jim Rohn

Q: When an athlete hits some “hard / difficult” patch in their sports career, what goes through your mind at that time? What advice can you give other young athletes in this regard?

As anyone would say, don’t give up. Hard patches may make you want to give up, but if you push through them it will make you better. Focusing on other aspects of your training to keep you going will be beneficial. (stroke- Technique)

Q: In your opinion, how do you define greatness in  life?

Greatness in life comes down to what you are willing to do to reach the best you possibly can be. If you know that you gave everything you could to get where you are, you have succeeded.

Doug05

Q: What’s your WHY ?  Why do you do what you do?

Swimming is something I love, and I did not give up on it. That’s what keeps me going, the will to succeed. I hope to have a positive influence and encourage the up and comers to believe in them selfs and don’t give up on something they love. I would like to set the example of hard work and dedication, as well as belief that if you want something to work, you will find away.

Q: One thing about Doug that the world does not know J

I Played Provincial Squash as a kid.

Q: Favourite meal?

So many. But most probably between a good pasta dish or braai.
